Shimano Ultegra R8000 11 Speed Cassette

With a Shimano Ultegra R8000 cassette shifting is quick, quiet and smooth. The cassette is lightweight, and extra rigid due to the use of spiders, which improves power transfer. That's why this Shimano Ultegra cassette provides you with perfect support while you're cycling! Due to the lightweight materials, use of spiders and specialised design, this cassette is lightweight.

The first five sprockets have been placed on spiders. These make the cassette more rigid and decrease the chance of your cassette damaging the body. Plus, with its special coating, this cassette is more durable than cassettes from Shimano's lower price range. You can also use this cassette in combination with other Shimano 12 speed groups to reduce the total weight compared to the 105, or save money compared to Dura-ace.

Ratios for every terrain
Various cassette ratios are available, enabling you to adapt to whatever terrain you're taking on. There are the 11/25 and 12/25 for your rides on flat terrain. The 11/28 and 11/30 are suitable for hilly trails and, for more experienced riders, mountainous areas. For the average cyclist, however, the 11/32 and 11/34 cassettes are the most suitable choice for the high mountains. Of course, all of this depends on whether you ride compact, semi-compact or double.

Quick and smooth shifting due to high-quality cut
During the production process, the sprockets are shaped with great precision. The cassette has been equipped with shifting lines and some teeth have rounded tips. This makes shifting gears very quiet and smooth, even when the pedals are under a lot of strain. Plus, the sprockets have a special, wear-resistant coating to increase the durability of this cassette.

Cassette width
This cassette has a 11/34 gear ratio, which is the same width as that of a 10-speed mountain bike cassette. Due to the umbrella-shaped spider, this cassette is also compatible with a mountain bike freehub body.

Spiders for extra rigidity
The first five sprockets of this cassette rest on spiders. A spider is an aluminium object manufactured from one piece of aluminium. Instead of having separate sprockets, in this cassette the sprockets have been secured onto the spiders. Aside from making the cassette more lightweight, it also provides it more stiffness. This rigidity helps convert more energy into speed. Plus, this extra stiffness also keeps the cassette from biting into the freehub body as much as it otherwise would.

Don't forget the assembly grease!
The lockring on your cassette should be tightened, in most cases up to 40Nm. To loosen the cassette, we recommend you apply a little bit of assembly paste to the lockring. Our assembly greases can be found here.

How often should I clean my bike? Regular cleaning ensures that your materials last longer, so you'll be able to enjoy cycling for a longer time. How often you'll need to clean your bike depends on the weather conditions in which you ride. Do you cycle through all kinds of weather, or do you only go out when the sun is shining? It all affects the degree of wear and tear and some people will have to clean their bikes more often than others. Use the schedule below as a guide:

October to March:
• Clean every 200 km
• Rinse after every ride
• Dry and oil the chain after every ride
• Leave the bike to dry at room temperature

April to September:
• Clean every 300 km
• Rinse off after cycling in the rain
• Dry and oil the chain after polishing or rinsing
• Leave the bike to dry at room temperature

What's the difference between an HG800 and an R8000 cassette?
There are two cassettes, with two separate product codes, listed on this page. These two cassettes are part of the same groupset and are of the same quality. However, there are differences in their range and compatibility.

The CS-R8000 cassettes are available with ranges between 11/25 and 11/32, and fit a Shimano HG 9-12 speed body. The CS-HG800 cassette is available with an 11/34 range, and is just as wide as a 10-speed mountain bike cassette. It'll fit on an HG 9-12 speed freehub body as well as a 10-speed mountain bike freehub body.
